Canine & Feline Vaccination Guidelines

Based on current AAHA (dogs) and AAFP (cats) recommendations. Vaccination plans should be individualized based on lifestyle and risk factors.

DOG VACCINES

Core Vaccines (Recommended for All Dogs)

Initial Series Booster

  • DAPP (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza)

    • Every 3–4 weeks from 6–16 weeks1 year later, then every 3 years

  • Rabies12–16 weeks1 year later, then every 3 years (per vaccine label and state law)

Lifestyle (Non-Core) Vaccines

Bordetella (Kennel Cough)

Recommended for:

  • Boarding

  • Grooming

  • Daycare

  • Dog parks

  • Training classes

Schedule:

  • Initial vaccine

  • Booster every 6–12 months depending on risk

Leptospirosis

Recommended for:

  • Most Florida dogs

  • Dogs with outdoor exposure

  • Dogs exposed to wildlife or standing water

Schedule:

  • Two-dose initial series (2–4 weeks apart)

  • Annual booster

Canine Influenza (H3N2/H3N8)

Recommended for:

  • Boarding facilities

  • Daycare

  • Frequent social exposure

Schedule:

  • Two-dose initial series

  • Annual booster

Lyme Disease

Recommended for:

  • Dogs traveling to endemic regions

  • High tick exposure

Schedule:

  • Two-dose initial series

  • Annual booster

Puppy Vaccine Timeline

Age                         Vaccines

6–8 weeks:       DAPP

9–12 weeks:     DAPP, Lepto (1st), Bordetella

12–16 weeks:   DAPP, Lepto (2nd), Rabies

16–20 weeks:   Final DAPP if needed

1 year:              DAPP, Rabies, Lifestyle boosters
